Robin Bastiman believes victory at Chester on Saturday will have done Borderlescott "the world of good" ahead of tougher assignments later on in the summer.
The popular sprinter got off the mark for the season with a one-length victory over Captain Gerrard in the Listed City Wall Stakes.
The seven-year-old stayed overnight in Chester before making the journey back to Bastiman's Wetherby base.
It is likely to be the Group Three Audi Stakes at Glorious Goodwood next for the seven-year-old followed by a bid to land back-to-back victories in the Group One Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.
"That will have done him the world of good. He had no penalty for that race and he'll have no penalty for the Group Three at Goodwood next time," said Bastiman.
"I don't think he'll be running in the Stewards' Cup there.
"He'll go for the Nunthorpe then. Let's hope Fleeting Spirit (July Cup winner) will have an off-day!
"She's a good filly, but he'll run his race.
"The Nunthorpe's back at York, it's his base and he's won there a couple of times. We're looking forward to it, I just hope he stays OK."
1st | 1 Borderlescott | 6-5 F |
2nd | 3 Captain Gerrard (IRE) | 9-1 |
3rd | 5 Hoh Hoh Hoh | 7-1 |
The durable Borderlescott overcame plenty of trouble in running to get off the mark for the campaign in the toteswinger City Wall Stakes at Chester.
Last year's Nunthorpe winner was sent off the 6-5 market leader after finishing fifth in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot.
But after bouncing out of the gates, he was soon shuffled back and stuck behind rivals.
Robin Bastiman's stable star was bumped before the turn for home but when the gap came in the straight, the seven-year-old knuckled down well to beat the fast-finishing Captain Gerrard by one length.
Bastiman said: "I keep telling everybody he only comes to himself in July and August.
"I know he's a year older, but the engine is still there.
"He'll go to Glorious Goodwood and, at this stage, I would say he'll go for the Group Three (Audi Stakes) as he'd have another 3lb penalty in the Stewards' Cup.
"Then we'll go to York for the Nunthorpe."
Winning jockey Pat Cosgrave added: "He's tough and genuine and I jumped nearly too good, really, as he likes to have something to tow him along for a while.
"I just slotted in on the fence and I took him back a bit further than I wanted because it was just getting so tight in there.
"I just accepted it as they were going quick and, thankfully, the gap was there for me in the straight."
1st | 3 Secret Society | 10-3 |
2nd | 5 Suruor (IRE) | 9-1 |
3rd | 1 Khor Dubai (IRE) | 12-1 |
Secret Society progressed from his second-place finish in the Britannia Stakes to be produced late by Jamie Spencer and claim the totescoop6 at Ascot.
Michael Bell's Exceed And Excel colt was beaten just a head at the Royal meeting, and scored by the same margin on his return to the Queen's racecourse.
The 100-30 chance travelled sweetly in the slipstream of Suruor, and despite taking a few seconds to find his stride, he led beneath the shadow of the post for a cheeky success.
"He lost two shoes before the race and another one during it. One of those pricked him slightly, so his turn of foot may not have been as quick as normal," said Spencer.
"I think that if I had played my cards later at Royal Ascot he may have won, but his turn of foot takes you there so quickly when he's against good opposition."
VC Bet trimmed the three-year-old to 12-1 for the totesport Mile at Glorious Goodwood, while William Hill were more impressed and go just 8-1.
William Haggas saddled Shamali to a resounding victory in the Euro Earthworks Handicap.
The four-year-old displayed the benefit of his previous two outings this year to steam past 3-1 favourite Mabuya at the one-furlong marker and cross the line nearly three lengths clear.
Haggas said of the 7-2 winner: "He was in an uncompromising position turning for home, but he has gone on and done it well.
"He has taken time to come to himself and is a big horse, but we have always thought he has ability."

2nd | 2 Lesson In Humility (IRE) | 5-2 F |
3rd | 1 Look Busy (IRE) | 14-1 |
Rae Guest's Serious Attitude, winner of the Cheveley Park Stakes last year, returned to winning form in the Cuisine De France Summer Stakes at York.
Unplaced in the 1000 Guineas when it was felt she failed to stay a mile, the 7-2 chance could take high rank now she is back sprinting.
Karl Burke's 5-2 favourite Lesson In Humility, third in the Golden Jubilee, made most of the running but was worn down in the closing stages by Eddie Ahern.
Look Busy was a distant third with Swiss Diva fourth.
Guest said: "We always knew she was a good horse, but it's difficult coming back as a three-year-old sprinter taking on older horses.
"We gave her a break after the Guineas, so she should come on a lot for that.
"We'll keep her sprinting now. Eddie (Ahern) says she'll get seven furlongs, but she's probably best over a stiff six.
"We'll now look at the Prix Maurice de Gheest (at Deauville) in August. That's six and a half furlongs, so it looks about right.
"She's definitely improving."

The Story...
Brian Meehan's Arcano maintained his unbeaten record with an impressive display in the TNT July Stakes.
The Oasis Dream colt was sent off the 7-4 favourite having won a strong maiden at Newbury on his debut and was always travelling well in the hands of Martin Dwyer.
Long-time leader Orpen Grey proved a tough nut to crack at the head of affairs, but Arcano scythed through the pack and wore him down to take the Group Two prize by three-quarters of a length.
Dwyer said: "I was very impressed, he did it well, I think he could be a proper horse.
"He's still a baby and I didn't want to get there too soon and be in front on my own because he is still learning.
"The Guineas is a long way off but there is no reason why he shouldn't stay a mile as he's pretty raw at the minute and he's nowhere near his best. He's got plenty of potential and plenty of scope."
Tom Dascombe said of the runner-up: "I'm thrilled, we were just beaten by a better horse.
"He'll go straight to Ireland now for the Tattersalls Million and I might bring him back for the Middle Park.
While Charlie Hills said of Red Jazz: "We are delighted. He finished well but could have been drawn a little better as he got stuck on the outside. The obvious race to go for is the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood."
