Xtension "Xtends" The Winning Run...3 out of 3 this week!

Clive Cox's Xtension paid Canford Cliffs a huge compliment when impressively winning the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Sent off the 7-2 favourite, (we advised at 4`s in the morning) the Coventry Stakes runner-up looked in some trouble two furlongs out as Mata Keranjang hit the front.

However, Adam Kirby's mount appeared to relish the seventh furlong and he flew home to win with something in hand by a length and a quarter. Corporal Maddox met trouble in running back in third.

Cox said: "He's a horse who I hope will continue to improve and one that has always been exciting. I hope he's a Guineas horse for next year and I think he's got the scope for a mile next year and maybe this year too. He's well entered up, but the most important thing is to see how he comes out of this race."

Kirby added: "He's a really good horse. Basically he travels on and off the bridle. He's still a big baby and has a lot to learn. He's got a lovely attitude as well and I think we've found a real good one.

"First time out he found it all very easy. Second time out over six furlongs, which is not really his trip, he was outpaced and came home really strong."

Paul Cole, trainer of the runner-up, said: "He hit the front at the right time and it wasn't that he stopped it was just that the other horse had too much speed for him. Conditions conspired against us as we could have done with a much faster pace, but he now has Group-race form. He's a very good horse."
