Godolphin were agonisingly denied consecutive wins in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury as Frankie Dettori and Alexandros lost out to Virtual in a desperately tight photo-finish.
Dettori lost his whip passing the furlong marker but the Godolphin camp felt that had little impact on the overall result.
The two rivals crossed the line together and the general consensus on the track was that Dettori had followed up Creachadoir's success 12 months earlier.
