Barry Hills and son Richard teamed up once again to lift the totesport.com Chester Cup with the 7-1 shot Daraaham.
The trainer/jockey combination landed the 1,000 Guineas at the weekend with Ghanaati and maintained their form with victory in the feature race on the opening day of Chester's May meeting.
A winner of the maiden on this card 12 months ago, the likeable chestnut took a prominent position behind leader Desert Sea on the final circuit and was poised to challenge entering the short straight.
And although the four-year-old took time to hit top gear, he was in front a furlong out and had enough daylight to hold the late thrust of the strong finishing Ajaan (11-1) by a neck with the staying-on Hala San (20-1) the same distance away in third.
"Wonderful - he travelled well throughout, he's a good horse," said the winning trainer.
"The ground is perfect today, it might quicken up by tomorrow and Friday. We just got away with it. It's been a memorable few days.
"That was the plan and has been for a long time so what we do with him now I don't know. He was gelded during the winter and that has improved him a lot.
"The Northumberland Plate and those sort of races will suit him as he loves going a distance.
"When they do improve at that age there is no telling what they can do and Sea Pigeon won this race before going on to win the Ebor."
