Cambridgeshire Report...nice one Hughie

Supaseus made almost every yard of the running in a thrilling renewal of the totesport.com Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.

Hughie Morrison's six-year-old was sent off at 16-1 having failed to get his head in front since last year's Royal Ascot meeting, but Travis Block bounced him out of the stalls and he was soon at the head of affairs.

Tartan Gigha came out of the pack to throw down a strong challenge for in-form trainer Mark Johnston but Supaseus kept sticking his neck out and passed the post just a nose ahead. Nanton was third, with Applause fourth.

Block said: "Mr Morrison said if we got an easy lead we were happy enough to break. All credit to Mr Morrison for getting this horse back and I'm just thankful I got the ride on him today. Driving here today I thought he doesn't feel like a horse who is fast enough to make it in the Cambridgeshire."

Morrison added: "After he ran in Dubai earlier this year I wasn't sure we'd ever get him back to the horse he used to be. With these big horses it takes a run or two to get them back and it was always the plan to make the running, but I have to say Travis gave him an absolute peach."

"I thought we had been caught and I was so gloomy after Pastoral Player wouldn't go in the stalls at Redcar - it just shows you how things can change so rapidly in this game."

Johnston said: "All mine have run well today, but it has been very frustrating not to have had a winner. Mind you we have probably made more money than from winning 36 all-weather races! Tartan Gigha has kept his form very well. I didn't think he had won from my position, but he was getting there."

Of Nanton, trainer Jim Goldie said: "I think he has been placed in every big handicap there is. I probably won't run him in the Cesarewitch now, but you never know. Otherwise I will probably save him for Dubai."
