News From Wetherby

Robin Bastiman has yet to decide whether Borderlescott will run again this year after his unlucky trip in the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp.

The dual Nunthorpe Stakes hero failed to find a clear passage inside the final furlong which took him out of the money into sixth place behind Total Gallery.

"He was a bit unlucky. The gap closed at the wrong time for him, otherwise he would have been placed and he might even have won," said the Wetherby trainer.

"That's him but there was no inquiry, it was just one of those things. It was the luck of the draw and he was just unfortunate not to get any prize money.

"There was only 100 yards to go and he was in third place. The gap closed, his momentum was gone and it finished his run off. Never mind he's come back OK and we live to fight another day.

"We don't know if he'll run again this year. We'll see how he is over the next week and then make a decision what we do depending on the ground and everything.

"He'll go again next year no doubt. He's won two Group Ones and he's a gelding."
