Fingers Crossed For Clowance
A crucial scan tomorrow will decide whether Clowance ran her last ever race when an excellent third in Friday's Coronation Cup at Epsom.
The six-year-old daughter of Montjeu, currently in foal to Oasis Dream, has only had 10 runs in her entire career due to her preference for a soft surface, but she looks to have signed off on a high, as she ran arguably her best ever race to chase home top-class performers St Nicholas Abbey and Midday at Group One level.
Charlton said: "It was nice to get such a good run out of her before she retired. She'll be rescanned to check she is in foal, as if she's not then obviously she'd keep going. If she is in foal, she'll go home."
He added: "I don't think people have really appreciated how good she is as she has had so little racing because conditions have rarely been right for her.
"They were right for her when she was beaten half a length in the 2009 Irish St Leger, which was a supreme effort as she had been off the track for 14 months when she ran there.
"She's got a good record really and I thought it was a brave effort on Friday."
