Nanton..."we're looking forward to another step up the ladder" JG

Nanton has his second crack at a Group Two victory tomorrow when he contests the Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup at York.

The grey is versatile as regards distance and finished second to Jukebox Jury in the Jockey Club Stakes on his seasonal debut at the beginning of the month.

"He's in good order and has come out of the Newmarket race well, so we're looking forward to another step up the ladder," said trainer Jim Goldie.

"I think he'll run well and his Ebor form last year (fourth to Sesenta) looks very good, so he should be there or thereabouts.

"I would imagine Purple Moon is the one to beat, but nearly all the rest are much of a muchness, so I think we go there with a live chance."

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor expects St Leger runner-up Kite Wood to put up a good show on his reappearance, while Wajir is the stable's apparent second string.

Bin Suroor told www.godolphin.com: "Kite Wood ran a big race in the St Leger and we gave him a break after that. He has come back very well and racing over a mile and three-quarters will suit him on his first start of the season.

"I have been happy with his preparation and I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on, although he will improve for the run.

"Wajir has been working well and he is improving all of the time. He had some good form in France and the distance will be fine, but he will also come on for the run."

The fast conditions mean Furmigadelagiusta is unlikely to take his chance, while Clowance has been announced a non-runner.
