Special Duty...Special Double!
Special Duty completed an amazing English/French 1000 Guineas double as she was awarded her second Classic victory in the stewards' room.
The Khalid Abdullah-owned filly was handed the Poule D'Essai Des Pouliches at Longchamp after first-past-the-post Liliside was disqualified following an inquiry, a result that comes just two weeks after Special Duty was promoted at Newmarket on the relegation of Jacqueline Quest.
The Longchamp stewards took a long time to amend the result but eventually confirmed that Liliside had been disqualified and placed sixth. Baine was promoted to second place with Joanna taking third, Rosanara fourth and British raider Lady Of The Desert fifth.
Criquette Head-Maarek, trainer of Special Duty, thought justice had been done following the change of result.
She said: "Amazing - that is the word. It feels very good and to win two Group Ones is incredible. The stewards have made the correct decision as I got the race, but it was the right decision overall as Liliside stopped the Aga Khan horse (Rosanara) from being closer."
Rohaut had little argument against the disqualification but hit out at the decision to place his filly behind Lady Of The Desert.
He said: "They have placed us behind the (Kieren) Fallon filly and I do not understand why. We did knock the Aga Khan filly but we didn't touch Fallon. I was not surprised to be disqualified but I am really surprised to be placed sixth."
