News On The Cheka

Eve Johnson Houghton believes her stable star The Cheka has a fighting chance in the totesport.com Lockinge Stakes at Newbury today.

The four-year-old has had just four career starts to date and tackles Group One company for the first time after finishing third to Paco Boy in the bet365 Mile at Sandown three weeks ago.

That was his first race for nine months and with Paco Boy in opposition again, he has four and three-quarter lengths to make up on Richard Hannon's classy performer.

"He's in good form and we're really looking forward to it, but it's a big step up in class," said Johnson Houghton.

"He's still very unexposed and very inexperienced and he's going to improve again from the race, there's no doubt about it. He'll love the straight track and he gets the mile standing on his head.

"I think he'll run a really big race. It's a hot contest but I'm hopeful and he's entitled to take his chance. I think he'll go really well and be in the shake-up."
