Old Boy Going For It Again
Caracciola will attempt to defy his advancing years yet again when he goes for back-to-back victories in the Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup at York.
The remarkable 13-year-old hung on by a short head after making virtually all the running in this Listed race 12 months ago before landing an emotional victory in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and owner Piers Pottinger reports his pride and joy to be in fine form.
Pottinger said: "It's a very competitive race. He's drawn 11 out of 11 and I'm not sure how good that is. We think it's the perfect prep race for Ascot and the Queen Alexandra there is our real goal. The ground should suit him and he's in very good form."
He went on: "He's been off for quite a while. Everything's been fine, he doesn't owe me anything. He has clearly lost interest in hurdling and clearly likes running around in the sunshine on good to firm ground, which is what we are going to let him do."
