A Look Ahead To Saturday

Connections of Royal Ascot runner-up Fort Bastion are leaning towards letting the colt run in the 32red.com Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

Richard Hannon's youngster chased home Mezmaar on his racecourse debut at Haydock and again filled the runner-up spot behind Aidan O'Brien's hugely exciting filly Maybe in the Chesham Stakes.

Fort Bastion also holds an entry in a Newmarket maiden on Friday, for which he would likely go off a short-priced favourite, but Barry Simpson, racing manager for owner Sir Robert Ogden, expects him to line up in the stronger contest.

"He'll run in either the maiden on Friday or the Superlative on Saturday. I'm not 100% sure which one yet, but I think it's more likely he'll go for the Group Two," said Simpson.

"On form, he would look the one to beat in the maiden. But, even though you don't like to say it, there doesn't seem to be an outstanding horse in the Superlative, on form at least.

"I think at Ascot he showed he is a better horse over seven furlongs than he was over six. Time will tell how good the winning filly is, but it looked a pretty decent race."
