Super Sprint Preview

Richard Hannon has six of the 38 remaining possibles in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday as he bids for an eighth win in the race.

Magic City, Airborne Again, Right Result, Eureka, Redact and Amis Reunis could all represent the champion trainer, who was last successful with Monsieur Chevalier two years ago.

Tom Dascombe has two of the top three in the weights, the highly-regarded Electric Qatar and National Stakes winner Pyman's Theory, while Kevin Ryan has four to choose from with Hamza, Jimmy The Lollipop, Nagham and On The Dark Side still engaged.

Richard Fahey is another with multiple entries and Lily's Angel looks the star of the team on just 8st 3lb. Alejandro, the unraced Boudoir, Pen Bal Crag and Ebony Clarets are his other possibles.

The Yorkshire handler said: "Ideally we think Lily's Angel may need six furlongs, but we are likely to give Saturday's race a crack as she is in such good form.

"Pen Bal Crag should be suited by the trip, as should Alejandro. We were very disappointed with Ebony Clarets' run in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot as we think a lot of her and we feel there is more to come, so she is likely to take her place also."

Ed McMahon scooped the big pot last year for owner John Fretwell with Temple Meads and the pair could be represented this year by Impassive.

The Choisir filly, who opened her account on her second start when sent off 1-4 at Nottingham, has only 7st 13lb and will be ridden by in-form lightweight Nicky Mackay.

"I think she's probably entitled to take her chance in the race. I don't think she's in the same bracket as Temple Meads was, but she's got a featherweight," said the Lichfield trainer.

"She's done nothing wrong so far. It's been won with paperweights before, so we're taking our chance. We've booked Nicky Mackay. It's hard finding lightweights nowadays. Good ones are few and far between."
