Perth Review

Welsh trainer Tim Vaughan enjoyed a successful raid in Scotland with a double through Khorun and Jive Master at a wet Perth.

Khorun (9-2) looked an unlikely winner of the Try totequickpick If You're Feeling Lucky Novices' Chase, but a never-say-die ride by Sam Thomas saw the ex-Irish six-year-old collar the pacesetting Fool's Wildcat in the dying strides to get up close home by a length and a half.

Irish import Jive Master followed up a Newton Abbot success with a cosy win in the totepool A Better Way To Bet Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race. Leading over a furlong out under 7lb claimer Michael Byrne, the 11-10 favourite was two lengths too good for Incas Article.

The Vale Of Glamorgan handler said: "Jive Master had won both his races on good ground and we were wondering whether to run him or not. He looks a nice prospect for the winter and we needed to find out if he acted on the softer ground, so we took our chance to find out and it paid off.

"As far as Khorun was concerned, it was the more rain the better, so it worked out really well. I'm delighted. It was worth the journey."

Irish trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Jason Maguire may have had to settle for second best behind the two Vaughan winners but they did not leave empty-handed as Brave Beauty (5-2) lifted the Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer Novices' Hurdle.

Last early on, Brave Beauty took over from long-time leader Green Mining at the final flight to score by five lengths.

Scotch Warrior (3-1) put up a game performance to win the toteexacta Handicap Chase in a hailstorm. The seven-year-old, owned and trained by East Ayrshire-based R Michael Smith, was always up with the pace and pulled out more for 7lb claimer Lucy Alexander to beat Peachey Moment by five lengths.

Peachey Moment's trainer Nicky Richards went one better thanks to Winter Alchemy (3-1), who worked his magic to win the Try totequick On All totepool Bets Handicap Hurdle.

Brian Harding's mount disputed the lead with Farfields for most of the extended three-mile test and had enough stamina to hold Manger Hanagment by three and a quarter lengths.
