Monet's Garden could be making public appearances in the near future as he completes his remarkable recovery from a life-threatening hoof infection.
The 13-year-old grey, owned by David Wesley Yates, is currently enjoying life out in the open at trainer Nicky Richards' Greystoke stables in Penrith after being given the all-clear following a scan.
Monet's Garden, who won 17 of his 32 races including three Grade One steeplechases, contracted a serious hoof infection after winning the Old Roan Chase at Aintree in October and his life hung in the balance for several weeks, but he was treated successfully at Oaklands Veterinary Centre in Yarm, Cleveland, before returning home in February.
"He's grand and he's out in the field now having a bit of grass. He's been out about a fortnight," said Richards.
"He was away and got shod again on Wednesday and the blacksmith was happy.
"The horse has been scanned and we got the all-clear from everything. It couldn't be better in the circumstances.
"He's getting plenty of offers wanting to see him at the racetrack, parading and things, but I thought we'd give him a few weeks out in the field and let him chill out. He deserves that."
